GODALMING TOWN COUNCIL
On the announcement of the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II on 8 September 2022, Godalming Town Council wishes to express its profound sadness, along with the people of Godalming, on the passing of Her Majesty, The Queen.
Flags will be flown at half mast from The Pepperpot and the Phillips Memorial Ground.
Books of Condolence will be available for members of the public to sign at the Godalming Town Council and Museum building, 107-109 High Street, Godalming, the Parish Church of St Peter & St Paul as well as St John’s Parish Church, Farncombe. There is also an online Book of Condolence on the Buckingham Palace website. Alternatively, should you prefer to write a letter of condolence, please send to Letter of Condolence, Godalming Town Council, 107-109 High Street, Godalming GU7 1AQ. Letters received will be included in the Book of Condolence.
Please note that events scheduled to be held by the Town Council will be cancelled as a mark of respect (or they will begin with a period of silence).
Floral tributes may be laid at The Pepperpot, Godalming Parish Church of St Peter & St Paul and the Farncombe Parish Church of St John the Evangelist. Please note that any floral tributes left at The Pepperpot or any other location will be transferred to the nearest Parish Church at regular intervals.
Both Parish Churches will be open for private contemplation and prayer. A service will be held on the mid Sunday within the 10-day mourning period by the Town’s local churches.
The Mayor will read the local Proclamation from The Pepperpot at 4.30pm on Sunday, 11 September 2022 . The Mayor will also lay a floral tribute to HM The Queen at The Pepperpot. Godalming’s Proclamation Programme is available for all those wishing to attend the local reading. If you do wish to attend, please ensure you arrive by 4.15pm.
The High Sheriff will be conducting the County Proclamation Reading at 1.00pm at Guildford Cathedral which will be livestreamed on YouTube.
