Godalming Borough Hall Barn Dance with Second Front
Farnham-based band Second Front will be making its umpteenth gig at the Borough Hall having proved themselves to be extremely popular in the past.
The band has many years of experience playing for barn dances/English ceilidhs in South East England and the members of the band also play with The Innistor Scottish Ceilidh Dance Band so the evening will feature authentic Scottish ceilidh dances as well as the usual mix of reels, jigs, polkas and slow waltzes. Those of you who do not regularly barn dance need not fear as the band regularly plays for local weddings, schools and family gatherings and it is used to an audience of enthusiastic beginners.
The main aim of the band’s caller, Bridget Flett, is to make the dancing enjoyable for everyone, from non-dancer to expert, and ensure that everybody has a good time. Experts and newcomers are all welcome, especially the latter as it is important that we keep the tradition alive and thriving.
The raison d’etre of the Godalming dances has always been to book the best and most exciting English folk dance bands and dance callers from all over the country. Experts and newcomers are all welcome, especially the latter as it is important that we keep the tradition alive and thriving. GBH Ceilidhs have been going since 1976 and this will be the last season of dances organized by Linda and Lawrence. We have a new organizer waiting in the wings but they will be watching the success of this season’s dances to finally decide whether to take over – so please come along to support the dances and keep them going.
