The University of Surrey Orchestra and Choir join forces to perform Vaughan Willams’ first major choral piece, Toward the Unknown Region. Following its first performance in 1907 it made an immediate impression on critics, identifying Vaughan Williams as a new and significant voice in English music.
The concert opens with one of the most famous and beloved operettas ever written, Strauss’ Overture Die Fledermaus and concludes with, what is regarded as, one of the greatest movements in the orchestra literature, the masterpiece Brahms’ Symphony No. 1 in C Minor, Op. 68.
