It is set on the vibrant South Sea island of Utopia. King Paramount\, the autocratic ruler of Utopia\, has sent his daughter\, Princess Zara\, to England to learn about English ways and customs\, with the intention of modernising Utopia. She returns with six “Flowers of Progress” (gentlemen who represent the Great & Good of England) to explain English culture and institutions. One of the Flowers is a company promoter\, who suggests to the King that Utopia becomes a limited company. The King agrees\, with hilarious and unforeseen results…  The humour is just as funny and relevant now as when it was first written. \nBe sure not to miss this rarely-performed gem. DESCRIPTION:As part of its centenary celebrations Godalming Operatic Society is mounting an exhibition at Godalming Museum from Wednesday\, 13 November to Saturday\, 30 November. \nThe Society was founded in 1924 and its first production was Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Yeomen of the Guard in 1925.  Since its foundation the Society has been at the forefront of the town’s rich musical heritage. \nThe exhibition will feature people who have done much to ensure the Society’s success over the years. Other highlights will include its links with Charterhouse\, the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company and performances at International Festivals. \nThe museum\, located at 109a High St is open Tuesday to Saturday 10.00am to 4.00pm (please note the Museum is not open to the public on Sundays and Mondays).

DESCRIPTION:Godalming Operatic Society presents one of Gilbert & Sullivan’s most popular operettas\, The Pirates of Penzance. The story features a band of pirates and their young apprentice Frederic who\, having reached 21\, is about to be released from his indentures and has sworn to take vengeance on them. Add in a Major General and his large collection of daughters\, a bumbling collection of Cornish policemen and such coincidences as Frederic’s birthday falling on February 29th and we have all the ingredients for a hilarious evening’s entertainment\, with some of the most memorable songs in the G&S cannon. \nGodalming Operatic Society is widely regarded as one of the country’s leading G&S societies and has performed in several international festivals. DESCRIPTION:To celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee as well as Godalming Operatic Society’s return after our two-year break\, we will be presenting an uplifting concert of music with royal connections. \nAs well as many favourites from Gilbert & Sullivan\, we will be performing the magnificent Zadok the Priest\, which has been sung at every coronation since the coronation of King George II in 1727\, excerpts from Merrie England\, Let the Bright Seraphim\, The Trumpet Shall Sound and Vaughan Williams – Linden Lea. \nThe concert will be accompanied by our very own professional orchestra\, who will also present some orchestral favourites. \nJune 18th Matinée at 2:30 and & Evening at 7:30 \nFor tickets please visit our website. \nTickets cost: £15 Adult/£10 Child
