Phillips Picnic in the Park

Pack your picnic blanket, bring your favourite sandwiches and prepare to dance around to live rag time music at the Phillips Picnic In The Park.

The free family fun event, being held by Waverley Borough Council to mark the end of the Phillips Memorial Park Improvement Project which was supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery Fund, will take place from 10.30am – 2.30pm on Tuesday 23 August at the Godalming park.

The party will be held around the bandstand with upbeat tunes played by ragtime band, Elite Syncopations, throughout the picnic.

Families can also learn more about the history of the park at the event by popping by Godalming Museum’s stall. Other stalls will be occupied by The Watts Gallery and Waverley’s Parks and Countryside Service, which will have information about becoming a Countryside Volunteer and a Friend of Phillips Memorial Park.

Children will be able to burn off some energy with sporting activities led by Godalming Leisure Centre staff or anyone can try their hand at bowling with the Godalming and Farncombe Bowls Club.

If that isn’t enough, there will also be a traditional ice cream bike and the Waverley Wolf will be around for pictures.

Kelvin Mills, Head of Communities and Major Projects at Waverley Borough Council, said: “This is going to be an amazing event so make sure you get down to the park with all your friends and family – there really will be something for everyone.

“Bring your own picnic, relax and enjoy the sights of the beautiful Phillips Memorial Park.”
