FARNCOMBE INITIATIVE
The Farncombe Initiative is a Town Council project chaired by Town Councillor Steve Cosser. Established in October 2013 following a public meeting the Initiative’s purpose is to identify key issues for the community in Farncombe and to bring about necessary improvements identified by people and businesses in the area.
The Farncombe Initiative is made up of local residents and meets monthly at Godalming Tennis Club to generate ideas and to discuss progress on agreed projects. Achievements to date include new litter bins, a new Farncombe Village sign, resurfaced pavements, litter picks, a Staycation Farncombe Family Fete, a new bench in Marshall Road, and some community planting (for which the Farncombe Initiative won the Godalming in Bloom managed community gardens award 2016). Projects in the pipeline include a blue plaque dedicated to Jack Phillips (the radio operator on the ill-fated Titanic born and raised in Farncombe and who died at his post the night the ship sank) and a new tree and planter to be situated in St Johns Street.
