Godalming Green Gala – Saturday, 12 August 2023

Godalming Town Council’s Godalming Green Gala is an event all about living sustainably and protecting the environment and takes place on The Bury’s Field.

Put the date in your diary and find out how local people are helping to make a difference to our environment and how you, too, can take some easy steps to make a positive change.

2022 PARTICIPANTS

Join What Next in their sumptuous lounge to enjoy some tea and vegan cake and relax and watch What Next TV showing wildlife, eco info and good news about the changes that are being made.

Meet Roots for the Future, who will introduce you to their work and will be running a raffle to win a tree as well as selling other tree related products.

Meet Clare from Godalming Nappy Library, who will be showing you how easy it is to move from disposable nappies to save 1000’s of tons of waste going into our oceans.

Anna Fosbery will be on site with her Zero Waste Showcase, find out how to create Zero Waste.

The Extinction Rebellion team will be running a free printing workshop blocking animal prints, birds and insects onto fabric remnants.

The Farncombe Community Garden will be bringing along views of their new Community Garden.

Find Take The Jump Godalming and the Godalming Climate Forum who invite you to join up and take any of the 6 important shifts that we will all need to take in the next decade that don’t cost the earth.

Meet the folks from Wild Learning who will be running free activities for children, come and make dream catchers/God’s Eyes/Boggerts (clay heads on sticks)/leaf printing using wood, recycled wool and old sheets (for leaf printing).

Find out about Surrey Hills 2 South Downs Community Rail Partnership (sustainable travel) for Farncombe, Godalming, Milford, Witley and Haslemere, the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the  South Down National Park – connecting communities to the railway.

Godalming Cycle Forum members will be explaining the concept around the Godalming-Guildford Greenway.   Take part in the great pannier challenge.  Find out how much you can pack in and have a go at winning your own pannier.

Godalming Library will be running a free simple drop-in book upcycling activity.

Citizens’ Advice will be on hand to make you aware of what they do.

COPSE will be telling you how they create and care for community orchards in the South East.

Come and meet Farncombe & District Allotment Association (F&DAA) members, who will be happy to share their allotment experiences on how to grow your own vegetables and flowers.

Guildford Seedbank will be telling you how you can save and plant seeds and take part in seed swap events in SW Surrey.

You will be able to buy bee friendly plants on site and other green/sustainable items.

Yard Market will be there to help you refull/reuse and recycle.

Puttenham Barn Bunkhouse Will be raising awareness about their sustainable bunkhouse that has many green credentials, and is aimed at walkers and cyclists.  Enjoy some interactive games, trivia about the bunkhouse to enter a prize draw, and a table top ‘Compost Challenge’ that involves kids and adults alike.

The Repair Cafe Godalming stall will be encouraging people to mend broken household items rather than throw them away and buy replacements. The Repair cafe is the place you can find the skills needed to help you mend them at no cost. Come and say hello and find out more.

ENTERTAINMENT & FOOD

The Music Works will be there to entertain you with young stars of the future plus come and try out some instruments too.

There will be vegan and veggie food to purchase including vegan cocktails and cake from the Godalming Food Company.  Ollo Foods will be bringing a variety of delicious Indian street food (95% Vegan), Godalming Delights will be bringing a cooling selection of vegan ice-creams, lollies, sweets and treats and vegan doggie ice-cream. Thyme 4 Tea will be providing savoury and sweet veggie delights and drinks.  Edna’s Delights will be serving up vegan and veggie burgers and Fencliffe’s Churros will be serving their vegan churros and sauces.
